Dispatcher - Boosting productivity with Concurrent Jobs

Dispatcher now supports Concurrent Jobs, allowing agents to handle more than one task at a time—intelligently and efficiently. This feature helps reduce idle time, improve job flow, and make better use of your workforce without adding complexity. Ideal for multi-skilled agents and real-world hospital operations.

Background

In real hospital environments, agents are often responsible for more than one type of task at a time. For example, a porter might transport a patient to one department, then wait nearby before continuing to another—or be asked to deliver a specimen, document, or parcel while waiting. Likewise, an interpreter may remain on standby between sessions and be available to assist with other service requests.

Until now, Dispatcher allowed only one active job per agent. While this works well for time-sensitive, high-focus tasks, it limits the flexibility needed in roles that naturally involve idle time, overlap, or multi-role coverage.

From ongoing conversations with healthcare teams—both in hospitals and service providers—we learned that enabling intentional multitasking could reduce wait times, increase efficiency, and make better use of every agent’s working hours.

Introducing Concurrent Jobs

Concurrent Jobs allow Dispatcher to assign new jobs to agents who already have active tasks—so long as their workload, location, and timing allow it.

This means:

Agents can manage multiple jobs at the same time, when appropriate

Dispatchers can optimize around real-world gaps and overlaps

Teams can get more done, with fewer delays and less idle time

When enabled, Dispatcher will check agent availability across multiple criteria and assign additional jobs only when it makes sense operationally.

What This Enables

Concurrent Jobs allow your team to:

1

Maximize agent productivity during low-intensity or idle periods

2

Handle overlapping job types (e.g., Patient, Document, or flexible)

3

Reduce waiting time between tasks without compromising quality

4

Enable multi-skilled agents to contribute more dynamically

This brings more responsiveness to departments with high job frequency, fluctuating demand, or cross-trained teams.

How It Works in Practice

To get the most out of Concurrent Jobs, teams should take a few simple steps to configure the feature based on how their real-world operations work:

1 - Enable the concurrent job rule by job type

There are three settings available:

Not Allowed

Prevents agents from receiving any other job while working on this type.

Same Type

Allows only jobs of the same type to be added to agents' queues concurrently.

All Types

Allows any job type to be assigned while the agent is holding this one.

This gives you fine-grained control over where multitasking is safe and effective.

2 - Set Job Cycle Ratio

Each job type can be assigned a cycle ratio to reflect how demanding it is. A quick specimen run might be a “1.0”, while a patient transfer might be a “1.8”. These ratios help Dispatcher calculate queue scores—balancing workloads intelligently so agents don’t get overwhelmed.

The system will continuously optimize queue assignments based on these scores.

3 - Start receiving concurrent jobs on the mobile app

Once the feature is configured, agents can begin receiving and managing multiple active jobs directly from the Dispatcher mobile app. The app is designed to help them stay clear on what’s next and switch between tasks efficiently—without confusion or overload.

A Closing Note

We believe in building systems that reflect how people really work—not how software assumes they should.

Concurrent Jobs is about trust and efficiency. It gives your team room to move smarter, not harder—and lets every minute on the floor count for more.

Because better logistics isn’t just faster—it’s more thoughtful.

Make every minute on the floor count.

Discover how Concurrent Jobs helps your team handle multiple tasks smartly—reducing downtime, improving response time, and making your operations more efficient without adding more staff. A quick demo is all it takes to see the difference.
